The Ultimate Jetsetter: Blogger’s Edition

I am a jet setter, one of the most traveled travel bloggers on the Internet.

So says Jetsetter, a new interactive program on Facebook that keeps track of how many miles you travel each year and supervises distance competitions among friends.

Va_ultjetset_bloggrs_num5_190x40I logged each of my trips. Jetsetter added them up. In a contest among travel bloggers from May 2007 to May 2008, Jetsetter placed me fifth with 34,250 miles. The trips are listed on my Facebook page.

This wasn’t my most traveled 12 months, with just one trip to Europe, one journey to Aruba and Panama, several cruises, occasional jaunts to Florida, nothing to Asia or Africa or Australia.

But even at my best I would have been hard pressed to beat Tim Hughes of The Boot – The Business of Online Travel. Hughes, who says he writes his blog with an Australian/Asian bias, logged 144,142 miles.

Second: Jens Thraenhart of Tourism Internet Marketing at 113,828 miles.

Third: Ben Mutzabaugh of USA Today’s Today in the Sky at 56,202 miles.

Fourth: Juliana Shallcross of Hotel Chatter at 49,506 miles.

That’s heavy competition in the Travel Blogosphere.

Jetsetter, developed by VibeAgent and available to members of Facebook, makes a contest of travel by offering competition among friends or colleagues to see who logs the most miles in a year. It’s a fun way to keep track of your trips, share your adventures and to comment — positively or negatively — on trips by your friends, and other folks, too.
